Potential Issues - 2
- The main issue is what happens in a more complex MIDI setup than ‘one controller, one instrument’.
- For example, if you had two sound modules, you might want one to respond to channels 1 and 4, and the remaining one *not* to respond to 1 and 4. This would require the ability to ‘switch off’ channels 1 and 4 on the gizmo, and currently you can’t do that ( though as a workaround you could just cut the gizmo volume at the desk *if* you were not using any other channel ).
- There are some General Midi patches that don’t work – for example, ‘Tubular Bells’ ( GM program number 15 ) crashes the synthesiser program, at which point you’d need to restart the gizmo.
- Any changes made to the configuration of the gizmo, for example by sending Program Change’s, are temporary – the gizmo will always start with the default values. These can be altered, but only by me ( at the moment ).
- Providing a user-friendly way to change the SoundFont files that are used ( or the default patches, for example ) would need a display and some knobs/buttons. Not impossible, not even that hard, just more work.
