Potential Issues - 1
- Stereo. This is a big problem. A lot of SoundFont patches are stereo patches – that means different sounds out of left and right audio channels. So if you just use one of those channels, you lose something.
- For example, notes from the keyboard are positioned in the soundstage according to their position on the keyboard. Middle C is in the middle, lower octaves on the left, higher octaves on the right. So if you just use the right channel, you’ll lose a lot of bass, and if you use the left channel you’ll lose a lot of treble.
- As it stands, the gizmo does not have a way of merging those signals into a ‘mono’ output ( I intend to fix this with a little bit of electronics in the ‘giggable’ version of the gizmo, but it’s not there right now ).
- Of course, the expectation is that both channels go to a desk which decides where on the soundstage the instrument should appear by panning each channel.
