P200 – allowing MIDI messages
- The P200 has this crazy scheme where it lets you ‘filter’ MIDI messages that it would otherwise send ( pg 53 ). I’ve never seen this anywhere else.
- In fact, it is pretty much invisible, because the default setting allows most messages to get out.
- However, there are two configuration settings that it might be useful to make here.
- 1. If Program Changes are not required for a Performance ( see P200 – Program Change ), then the Filter for Program Change messages should be ON for that Performance. This will prevent accidentally reconfiguring the gizmo in a useless way when selecting that Performance.
- 2. The manual recommends turning the Filter ON for Exclusive and Bulk messages when using a sound module ( aka ‘tone generator ). Not sure why, but it won’t do any harm.
- Unfortunately if you adopt the scheme for MIDI channel use described in P200 – selecting a MIDI channel , then you need to do this for every Performance for which you assign a MIDI channel .
