P200 – selecting a MIDI channel
- The P200 makes this exceptionally complicated .
- You can choose to either have a ‘global’ setting for MIDI Channels, or to make MIDI channel settings depend on the particular ‘Performance’ that is selected.
- Whichever one of these you choose, you have to burrow into menus in Edit mode to actually change channel, you can’t just hit a ‘MIDI Channel +/-’ button on the fly.
- Because there are up to 24 ‘Performances’, you could configure 16 Performances to each use a different MIDI channel, and thus get a different sound out of the gizmo. In other words, you change MIDI channel by selecting a Performance.
- Because the P200 user interface is set up to make selecting a Performance easy, using Performances in this way is probably the easiest way to be able to switch MIDI channels ‘live’ as it were. But it ties Performances to particular MIDI channels.
- To work this way, the ‘Performance MIDI Channel’ selection ( pg 52 ) should be set to ‘Perf’, not ‘Sys’.
- What I think you do then is to select a Performance, then go into Edit mode and change the MIDI channel settings as per pg 54/55 (‘TRANSMIT CHANNEL Main/Sub ( Off, 1 – 16 )’ section ), and repeat this for 16 different Performances.
