P200 – Program Change
- The default P200 settings for Program Change are pretty much useless, so if you want to do Program Changes then you will have to configure the P200 to do what you want.
- The P200 makes this exceptionally complicated and less than completely useful .
- You don’t have a simple way to just increase/decrease the current program number, or just enter a program number directly.
- What you have to do is to assign a bank number and program number to a [SELECT] button ( see ‘PROGRAM CHANGE TRANSMIT’ section on page 53 ). Then when you press the button, the Program Change, Bank MSB and Bank LSB messages that you assigned are sent.
- In ‘Performance’ mode you can have a maximum of 24 ‘programs’ ( meaning Program Number + Bank MSB + Bank LSB ) defined at any one time, each one associated with a Performance. In other words, only 24 program changes are available without reconfiguring a button, and you have to change Performance to get them.
- In effect, the P200 treats a Program Change as being an extension of Performance or Voice selection, rather than as a completely independent thing that you can change at any time. This isn’t useless – but it’s not very flexible, as it means you have to pre-configure the program ( and the relevant MIDI channel ) for each Performance.
